Schools in Goa Asked to display midday meal logo
PANAJI: Schools in Goa will have to put the logo of the midday meal scheme on display on its buildings and print the logo on its letterheads, envelopes and registers, according to a central government directive.
The idea is to create further awareness about the scheme that provides hot, cooked meals to school students and aims at eliminating malnutrition.
In Goa, the task of painting the midday meal logo in a prominent spot on the school building has been handed over to the Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA). The SSA logo has already been painted prominently on primary school buildings across Goa and the midday meal logo will now be painted alongside.

Students at higher secondary level may soon find questions on IPOs, secondary markets, mutual funds and the like in their exam papers, if SEBI has its way.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India has been in talks with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to introduce financial literacy as a part of the school syllabus.
Mr U.K. Sinha, Chairman, SEBI, said that at a recent meeting of the Human Resource Ministry, members of CBSE agreed in principle to weave some elements of financial literacy through the curriculum for higher secondary students. “We are making progress towards it, and it may happen soon,” he said. The SEBI chief was here on Monday to address a Regional Investor Seminar on ‘Securities market and the common man'.

Student from India shot in UK
London: An India student enrolled at a British university was shot dead today in what is described as an unprovoked attack by two white men, police said.
The Indian student, who has not been named, was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead early today morning.
The Greater Manchester Police said the victim was aged 23, and was studying at Lancaster University. His parents in India have been informed of the incident.
Indian Universities- UGC Approves New Norms for release of funds to Universities
Getting funds for Indian Universities without getting clearance from the institution’s executive council and mandatory accreditation would become difficult from the next financial year. India’s higher education regulator, the University Grants Commission, has altered the funding scheme
for universities from April 2012, which is also mean commencement of the 12th five year plan.
Instead of mandatory inspections, which often lead to delay in release of funds, the UGC will decide allocations for the entire plan period as soon as it receives the proposal cleared by the university’s highest decision making body, the executive council.
