A high level team led by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor Prof PK Abdul Aziz is visiting Maharashtra on October 26 to inspect lands in Aurangabad and Malegaon to establish its off campus centre in the state. The expert team is arriving to Aurangabad from Delhi by air on October 25 in the evening.
"A six-member high-power team headed by the Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Prof. PK Abdul Azis is visiting Maharashtra on October 25-27, 2011 to inspect the sites identified by the state government for the establishment of AMU off campus centre in the state", chairman of Noble Education & Welfare Society (NEWS) Aleem Faizee said.
Noble Education & Welfare Society (NEWS) is coordinating since last three years with local leaders specially Guardian Minister of Nasik District Chagan Bhujbal and Nasik MP Samir Bhujbal for the establishment of the centre in the state.
"The other members of the team include Prof. Anwar Jahan Zuberi, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and former Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut, Prof. Jawaid Akhtar, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Prof. Ekram Husain, Principal, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Prof. N. A. K. Durrani, Media Advisor, Prof. M. Saud Alam Qasmi, Former Dean, Faculty of Theology", he said.
As part of its ambitious program to spread its wings to national level, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in 2007 decided to establish one centre each in Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. While the centers in Kerala and West Bengal have already begun academic activities, efforts are on by the respective state governments in Bihar and Maharashtra to establish the centers.
In Maharashtra, realizing the importance of the impact this centre will have on the region, Nasik MP Samir Bhujbal at the behest of Guardian Minister of Nasik District Chagan Bhujbal contacted Vice Chancellor Prof PK Abdul Aziz and requested him to visit Malegaon for inspection of the land identified for the purpose in Malegaon.
Earlier, the Higher & Technical Education Department of the Maharashtra Government had in April 2011 written to the AMU VC informing him of the availability of the land in Malegaon.
Later, Minister of State for Primary Education Mrs. Fauzia Khan also contacted AMU VC Prof PK Abdul Aziz and informed him about the availability of the land in Aurangabad. Consequently the AMU decided to send its high power team to inspect the lands on both the locations.
Ironically, while so much efforts are on by other states, informed sources said that the BJP led government in Madhya Pradesh had not shown any interest till now for the establishment of the AMU off campus centre in the state.
