Peeved over constant harassment by Nagpur University authorities, an aggrieved youth created a ruckus at the NU's administrative block on Friday. The youngster Shibli Malik, describing himself as the secretary of the Youth for Human Rights International, damaged a printer, threw files and abused NU officials after they failed to heed to his demands.
This is not the first attack on NU by students. On February 20, 2009, activists of Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha (BJYM), affiliated to the BJP, stormed the NU premises and left mayhem in their wake, smashing whatever came in their way and damaging property worth 4 lakh. A FIR has been lodged against Malik by registrar Mahesh Yenkie at Sitabuldi police station.
Malik said he had approached NU's administrative block to seek information regarding admission for his cousin, who has cleared her first year BCCA exam in revaluation results. She is a student of Hislop College, which denied her admission to final year, despite her having cleared her second year, due to the September 29 deadline for admissions.
Ironically, she received her result only on Friday despite the fact that it was declared about a couple of weeks back, after which they had first approached the exam section. However, they were made to run from pillar to post before finally being directed to the registrar's office at Maharajbagh.
Here too, they were made to go from one desk to another before being directed to the Academic Section, where officials categorically refused to give her any relief. Though Malik pleaded that it was not their fault, since the NU had failed to declare results for over three months, he was allegedly shown the door.
Fed up with this attitude, Malik flew into a rage and started throwing files and other things kept on the table. He unleashed his fury on a keyboard and computer.
The NU officials told him to approach the PRO's office for his problems. However, citing past experience, he started abusing the officials. As the situation worsened, Sitabuldi cops were called in.
After this incident two more first year BBA students from Sindhu College reached NU with a similar problem. They had been declared passed in revaluation results declared on October 7, but they received their marksheet after 20 days, on Friday.
Rakesh Jambhulkar and Rehan Anees also claimed that their results were declared after three months due to which they can't get admission to final year.
NU PRO office refused to make any comments as usual.
