GUWAHATI: Results for the annual students' election of B Barooah College were declared on Wednesday. A total number of 1311 students voted for the elections, which took place on Tuesday.
"There were no problems involved during voting. Some nomination were cancelled because of low attendance. The voting procedure was divided into four zones according to the courses," said Bhawani Kanta Sarmah, vice-president and election officer, B Barooah College.
Bijitananda Adhikary, a first year BSc student and an Aasu candidate was elected as the new general secretary after defeating two other fellow candidates. Adhikary got 540 votes, beating Saiduil Haque and Wilson Basumatary, who contested as independent candidates. Dipendra Kumar Khanal, a third year BA student, was elected uncontested to the post of vice-president. On the other hand, Angshuman Pathak, a second year BA student, was elected the new assistant general secretary, defeating fellow contestant Nabajyoti Phukon. Pathak got 709 votes.
Debolina Dey, a second year BSc student, was elected uncontested as the music and fine arts secretary. Hitesh Baro, a first year BSc student, was also elected uncontested as the new minor games secretary, while Rofique Ali, a first year BA student, was elected uncontested as the new gymnasium secretary.
Nine other posts are vacant which will be filled in due time by president, vice-president and general secretary who will nominate suitable candidates.
