Dera Ismail Khan—Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said, it is education which matters in building nations socially, culturally and economically and ensures better future for their coming generations and at the same time. It is the conducive environment of educational institutions which grooms students; constructs their personalities in making them good scientists, teachers and leaders in every walk of life. Therefore, he remarked, there is no substitute to education and the time is not far away when our educational institutions will be in a position to the optimum level in making this possible in our country too.
Addressing as the chief guest at the joint Convocation of the last four academic sessions of Gomal University, DI Khan on Monday, the Governor said, frontiers of knowledge keep expanding what is new today becomes obsolete next day, and hence, he added, we need to keep abreast with latest knowledge, otherwise our diplomas and degrees will become worthless pieces of paper.
Paying rich tributes to the founder of the university and the ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto the Governor said, there is a need that this university should produce the persons like him and the Quaid-e-Azam Ali Jinnah and time is also not far away when the Dera Ismail Khan will also become the hub of cultural, social and economic activities.
Our seats of higher learning have to create environment for scientific research, consistent with growing needs of the country. The faculty can be compared to human engineers, who have to improve the qualitative aspect of human resource placed at their disposal. In all 149 graduates of 32 departments of the last four academic sessions of the university got gold medals while 21 graduates of Agriculture, Arts, Pharmacy and Sciences were awarded Ph.D Degrees on this occasion.
The ceremony was largely attended by eminent educationists, elites of the area and the parents of some of the graduates.Barrister Masood Kausar said, history of mankind is replete with many examples which testify that only those nations rose to the pinnacles of glory and fame which concentrated on enlightenment of their individuals and created seats of learning from where scholars of international repute were assigned the task of spreading knowledge. Same is true today. If we as a nation have to progress, we have to lay due emphasis on latest disciplines matching to our present day needs.
