Following a government resolution (GR), which was passed recently, the office of Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT), Pune, will carry out a project of setting up around 120 additional educational centres also known as Virtual Private Networks (VPN) across the state. For the project the MSCERT has been allotted about Rs 6 crore by the state government.
According to the GR, the second phase of linking all the educational offices under the state education department will begin soon and though the scheme has been initiated by the Union Ministry of Communication, it is being implemented with the help of EDUSAT, the education satellite set up by the Indian Space Research Centre. These centres will be used to deliver lectures and share important information with students, both from urban and rural areas.
"About two months ago, the school education department had set up almost 450 centres in the state. This particular scheme was initiated to connect the education offices across the state, and help arrange lectures through video conferences for students in rural and remote areas. This has been decided to streamline education," said an official from MSCERT.
The resolution states the additional 120 centres will be the offices of education officers from primary and secondary and also of divisional secretaries of secondary and higher secondary divisions from education departments in the city, Nagpur, Amravati, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Latur, and Nashik.
