Schools told to contact students within two days
PMC
PUNE: The education board of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) instructed all schools to contact parents and students within two days to ensure that schools reopen on November 11, in a meeting with school principals on Tuesday morning.

The union government recently directed states to ensure that all schools reopen on November 11 after the Diwali vacations. The government is launching a national campaign called 'Shikshan Adhikar Abhiyan' on November 11, which is observed as 'Education Day' to mark the birth anniversary of the country's first education minister, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
Sangeeta Tiwari, chairperson of the board, informed the assembled principals of the day's importance and
distributed copies of the Prime Minister's message for the particular day to the assembled principals. The Union government, as part of its Right to Education drive, has instructed that all schools must read out the Prime Minister's message on November 11 during the prayer assembly.

Tiwari said, "We will follow the government notification. I am glad that principals attended the meeting in such large numbers on such a short notice. Every school will have to call up parents and students personally and inform about the change in date of reopening."

Confusion prevailed among schools over reopening of the schools when the Union government's notification was announced. Most of the English medium schools reopened this week, but several Marathi medium schools had planned to reopen on November 14.

Rajendra Kadam, principal of a PMC-run school in Vadgaonsheri, said, "We have to make the desired change in the date. We will be putting up a notice board outside the school from today informing the change in date."

Kiran Jadhav, a principal of another PMC school, said, "We have a good database of contact numbers of our schoolchildren. We will ask all our teachers to contact the parents of children in their classes and inform about the change. It will be a tedious task, but we have to abide by the rules of the government
