The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to set up a committee and appoint a private agency for speedier implementation of the 34-km high-capacity mass transit route or inner ring road in the city.
“The inner ring road was proposed in the development plan prepared in 1987 but nothing has been done so far. It is necessary and a meeting was called to speed up implementation,” said standing committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar.
He said the 16-km stretch passes through private land, 3.78 km through irrigation department land, 3.55 km through forest land and the rest through the cantonment, university and other government owned land.
The PMC will have to acquire 7.6 lakh sq metre land for the inner ring road, he said, adding only 50,000 sq meter land is in possession.
“The committee led by additional municipal commissioner has been set up to look into acquisition of land owned by government organisation. The committee would work on getting the land for inner ring road from the government organisation,” he said.
Bidkar said a private agency would be appointed in 15 days for completing the process of acquiring privately owned land.
