After the Thakur Committee, a panel appointed by the Supreme Court to review the reports on the quality of 44 deemed universities, released its report, Vice Chancellor of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth (TMV) which is the only university from Pune to figure in the list, said he does not agree with the report. The SC will take a decision on the matter on November 23.
The three-member panel had been set up by the apex court in January this year after the universities challenged the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry's decision to de-recognise them because they failed to meet the standards.
Deepak Tilak, vice chancellor, TMV said that he did not agree with the latest report. “Initially, when the universities were being reviewed, we were given 10 minutes to give a presentation. We have about 3000 regular students and 22,000 students who have opted for various long distance courses. We are waiting for the SC to arrive on the decision, after which we will decide our further course of action,” said Tilak.
