BANGALORE: From the next academic year, primary and secondary education in the state will be three-tiered. Primary and secondary education minister Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri told the legislative council on Friday that it's in sync with guidelines of the central government's Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) designed to improve the quality of education . In the three tiers, Class 1 to 5 will come under primary, Class 6 to 8 under higher primary and Class 9 to 12 in the high school category.
The government formed two committees to study the proposed system and evolve an action plan. "They'll also look into the feasibility of extending the three tiers to private aided and unaided schools,'' he said.
In the state, 4,233 teacher's posts are vacant in 2,409 high schools. The government has instructed headmasters to appoint guest teachers for now. "By next year, we'll try to ensure all vacancies are filled,'' he added.
