Mumbai: Bollywood actress Kajol, a mother of two, says education is the prime need of the society, and that every child must be educated to bring about positive change.
The 37-year-old, who is the international goodwill ambassador of Britain-based Loomba Foundation, which supports the cause of educating children of poor widows in India, was here Saturday to attend the annual charity dinner of the organisation.
"We see widows everyday, but we hardly think about it as a cause or about how difficult it is for widows to lead a normal, happy life here. I have two kids and I know it is difficult to bring them up. Forget two people, even four people are sometimes not enough to handle children well. So, one can imagine what widows with less or no financial support can go through," Kajol said while addressing the media.
"Every mother wants to give her child the best of education and the best of everything in life... but they just can`t do it because they have no financial means to fulfil those desires.. sometimes, they don`t even get work to make enough money. So it is just a question of helping people who need those funds to support their child`s education," she said.
Kajol has an eight-year-old daughter Nysa, and one-year-old son Yug. As a mother and woman, she says education must be the priority in every household.
"Ëducation should be the basis of the society. If you want to see the change, you can`t wait for people on your left and right to bring it. You have to bring that change... because every child deserves education," said the Bollywood beauty, who has been associated with the Loomba Foundation, along with her husband Ajay Devgn, for the past three years.
Ajay, who was scheduled to attend the event here, had to skip it due to shooting commitments in Patiala. However, Loomba Foundation president Cherie Blair, wife of former British prime minister Tony Blair, and the organisation`s chairman trustee Raj Loomba were present.
