Who is Annamacharya? | Detail Information Annamacharya | Annamacharya Introduction | Life style of Annamacharya.
TALLAPAKA in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh was a nondescript village till Annamayya was born, to Narayana Suri and his wife Lakkamamba. The story goes that the couple longed for progeny and fervently prayed to Lord Venkateswara. They were blessed with a brilliant stroke from the sword of the idol and soon after on May 9, 1408, they became the proud parents of a divine child. They named the boy Annamayya. He grew up singing the praises of the Lord.
In his lifetime he composed and sang around 32, 000 sankirtanas and several other sacred hymns in Telugu, Sanskrit and many other languages. He wrote them on palm leaves and years later his son got them engraved in copper plates. But they remained in oblivion for four centuries till one fine day in 1922, hundreds of copper plates were found in a cell in the premises of the Tirumala temple.
Annamacharya's songs have been rendered immortal by famed musicians like M S Subbulakshmi and Dr Balamuralikrishna. Dwipada, rhyming couplets written by Annamacharya's grandson, throw light on Annamacharya's life and his invaluable compositions.
Annamacharya was believed to be the incarnation of Lord Venkateswara's sword and of the Lord himself and there are two temples dedicated to the poet, one in Tallapaka and the other in Tirumala.
