Kolhapur Mahalaxmi's Shalu Sold for 7.5 Lakh in Auctions
A SACRED "Shalu" (a cloth of line texture or Silk Sari) of Goddess Mahalaxmi. which is considered auspicious by devotees, was auctioncd for highest rate of Rs Seven Lakh and Fifty Thousand, at Garud Mandap. in the premises of Goddess Mahalaxmi Temple, on Sunday afternoon.
It was purchased by Ashok Jambhle of Ichalkaranji town of this District and former MLC of Nationalist Congress Party.
The 'Manacha' (entitled to respect) 'Shalu'. presented every year by Tirupti Balaji Devsthan of Tirupati as a token of love of Lord Balaji to Karveer Nivasini Goddess Mahalaxmi. during "Dussehra" festival, which is put on the Goddess on "Vijaydashami" day in Navratra festival. This year, the 'Shalu'. originally prized al Rs 87 thousand, first 'Boli' (a dialect) sianed from Rs Five Lakh and fifty seven thousand. Devotees from Puneand Kolhapur, Ichalkaranji and Chandgad of this district took part in this auction.
The WMDC used the auctioned amount to create various facilities for devotees, who visited for 'Darshan' from various parts of the State throughout the year.
