Maharashtra Government Ban on loose Edible Oil ?
THE Maharashtra Government has lifted ban on selling edible oil in loose form. According to standards of Food Safety Rules. 2012. the shopkeepers had to sell oil only in tin containers. Once used containers were not allowed to be used again.
Il was not convenient for small purchasers to buy edible oil as it was not available in packs of 100, 200 or 300 gms.
Poor farmers as well as farm labourers and people below poverty line could not afford to buy oil in tin containers weighing 500 gms as it was costly.
Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce and Industry in coordination with Oil Traders Association had pursued the matter with the State Government and asked authorities is defer implementation till tin containers were made available to sell oil in small packs.
Kamalcsh Vora. President of Vidarbha Chamber of Commerce and Industry, informed that now edible oil would be made available in the market in loose form so that needy people can buy it small quantity. Vasant Bachhuka of Oil Traders' Association has thanked the government for its decision
