Google Animated Doodle for Monday's Netherlands vs Chile Match

Google Animated Doodle for Monday's Netherlands vs Chile Match

Google has taken the football fervour off the football pitch for its latest doodle. It is no surprise that the World Cup takes people by storm once every four years, and people (football lovers or otherwise) take to dramatically cheering for teams during the game. Celebrating the same thought process is Google's latest doodle, of World Cup 2014 which marks the upcoming Netherlands vs Chile match, at an office place.
Monday's World Cup 2014 doodle for the Netherlands vs Chile match has the six letters of the word sitting in an office meeting with an LCD panel in the background showing graphs. The letters are shown to be hard at work as the boss (denoted by the letter 'B') walks by past them. The boss is complete with glasses, a handlebar moustache, papers and even a tie, all in black. Once the boss passes by the 'E' flips the screen only to reveal a match in progress with players passing the ball around. It is also the first doodle that does not feature the green and canary yellow ball, which has been a staple of the other doodles.
Group B: Holland v Chile

Venue: Arena Corinthians, Sao Paulo

  • Kick-off: 5pm (1pm, Brazil time)
  • TV coverage: ITV1, from 4pm
  • Odds: Holland 13/8, Draw 11/5, Chile 7/4
  • Referee: Bakary Gassama, Gambia
  • Managers: Louis van Gaal (Holland), Jorge Sampaoli (Chile)

Team news to follow

  • Key clash: Arjen Robben (Holland) v Eugenio Mena (Chile)

Mena has looked comfortable in Chile’s opening two games against Australia and Spain, but playing against Robben, particularly given his brilliant current form, will be far more challenging assignment.
Doodle number 27 from the World Cup 2014 series, depicting the Netherlands vs Chile match, is visible in almost all the parts of the world save the East, West and North of Africa and a part of far South East Asia. The caption for the doodle, on Google's doodle archive page reads, 'Try to squeeze in some football during your office meeting, but watch out!'

Google had in the recent past also shifted its World Cup 2014 doodle focus entirely to football with the 'keepy-uppies' doodle of Thursday and the 'dribbling' doodle  from Friday. It had also doodled the United States and Portugal game from Sunday. Monday's Netherlands vs Chile doodle follows the same trend.

Clicking on Monday's animated Google doodle shows search results for the upcoming Netherlands vs Chile match, along with live scores of previous games and schedules for upcoming games, and more news from the Fifa World Cup 2014.

The Netherlands vs Chile match will be played at the Arena Corinthians. Both the teams have made it to the round of 16 after having defeated the likes of Spain and Australia in the group. Spain became the first World Cup champion to crash out after playing only two games of World Cup 2014. They were first drubbed 5-1 by Netherlands and then Chile scored a shock 2-0 win over them last week. Both Spain and Australia, who are already out, will be playing for at least one win in the tournament on Monday.

This is the most unpredictable game of an even more unpredictable World Cup. Both of these sides have looked excellent so far, excelling with specialized high-pressing, counter-attacking strategies, so trying to separate them is nigh-on impossible. But purely because Chile have nothing to lose, and will thus likely be more cavalier with their approach, I think the Dutch could counter their way to a tight win. 3-2 Netherlands.
