A lottery draw for 2,641 flats of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) will be held on Wednesday at Rangsharda auditorium in Bandra.
While 814 of these flats are spread around Mumbai, the rest 1,827 houses are in Virar and Vengurla, the coastal city in Sindhudurg district. The lottery will be drawn from 93,130 applicants who are eligible.
The total number of applicants has been low this time, apparently because people were disappointed by the hike in rates for the flats. For example, a high-income group flat in Shailendra Nagar, Dahisar, will cost about Rs80 lakh.
The state housing agency stated on Tuesday that it had received 1,23,254 applications for these flats till June 11. But only 93,639 applicants had paid the security deposit.
Mhada stated that 3,458 applications had been rejected for various reasons like filing multiple applicants in different income categories, incorrect PAN details and wrong information of payment mode.
The list of the applicants who are not eligible for the lottery or whose applications have been rejected have been put up on the portal www.lottery.mhada.gov.in.
This is the seventh consecutive year of the lottery draw for affordable houses in Mumbai. The first draw was held on November 10, 2008 for flats in Malwani, Malad, specially for economically weaker sections.
The housing agency is expected to intimate by SMS those who get apartments through the lottery system. The list will also be uploaded on the website by Wednesday evening.
