Nagpur Medical College IGGMCH now has 150 Seats

THE students, administration and Vidarbhites heaved a sigh of relief as according to highly placed sources. Medical Council of India in its meeting of Executive Committee has decided to recommend to Union Health Ministry to approve additional 50 seats of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College. Nagpur. Willi this development, IGGMC has become college witli intake of 150 undergraduate seats.

Following timely judicial intervention, the intake capacity of IGGMC is being protected since lasy one decade. This has become a ritual of sort with MCI reducing the intake capacity of IGGMC only to restore it on the basis of undertaking given by Maharashtra    Government to remove deficiencies. However, the High Court last year, lashed out at authorities for being extremely  casual  and  callous towards this public health institution and laid down a road-map to remove all serious deficiencies and shortcomings. Periodic orders passed by the High Court and undertaking furnished by the Chief Secretary has finally resulted in removal of most of the deficiencies.
