New Policy 2014 For Persons with Disabilities
■ Prevention of disabilities by monitoring causative factors; detection and treatment to arrest further progression of disabilities; reduction of disabilities by attempting rehabilitative intervention.■ Rehabilitation measures with special focus on spheres of health education and social services.
■ Community based rehabilitation by enhancing quality of life for people with disabilities and their
families.
■ Special attention on women with disabilities, particularly those abandoned by their families. Training for youth with disabilities and disability with ageing.
■ Education for children with disabilities beyond school level through special schools and colleges and building hostels for diem.
■ Barrier-free environment and right of accessibility.
■ Social security and social protection.
■ Involvement and promotion of Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs) and supporting them.
■ Collection of data within six months of adoption of policy from employers and educational institutions.
■ Constitution of committee of legal experts to study disability rights deficit existing in laws and
prepare affirmative action plan with reference to Persons With Disability Act 1995 and UNCR-PD2006.
■ Right to equal opportunities in public employment and self-employment including jobs or manual work for intellectually disabled. Strengthening MGNREGA.
■ Housing scheme for PwD.
■ Awareness raising initiative.
■ Right to political participation.
■ Promoting research and human resources development.
